Application & CBA Assessment Process
How an application moves from Provisional Membership through to full Competency Based Assessment (CBA) and registration as a Professional Engineer.
Provisional Membership
The first stage of the process, granting temporary recognition while your full application is prepared.
Complete Form CA01 or CA02, together with CA04 and CA05.Expatriates: see additional documents.
The Membership Coordinator checks all documents are in order, using Checklist CA015, and assigns a Case Officer.
The Case Officer enters the applicant's details into the Member Information System (MIS) and issues an invoice.
Arranges payment of fees and sends the receipt to IEPNG.
Issues the Provisional Membership notice to the applicant once payment of fees is confirmed.
Kept informed and updated of progress throughout the process, as reported by the Case Officer.
Full CBA Assessment
Once Provisional Membership is in place, the full Competency Based Assessment leads to registration as a Professional Engineer.
Completes the CA03 form, together with two work samples.
Each of the two nominated referees completes Form CA06.
The Membership Coordinator checks all documents are in order (Checklist CA015), and the Case Officer registers that forms have been received.
Reviews the application element by element. The assessor assigned depends on the applicant's engineering discipline.
Reviews the application holistically.
Issues the application to the IEPNG Coordinator for a final review and checks.
Endorses the application.
Informs the applicant and issues the Membership and Registration certification.
Registration completed — the applicant is now a Registered Engineer.

Important Notice to All Members
IEPNG has recently taken significant steps to assist applicants in resolving outstanding application issues and expediting the assessment and approval process for membership. The Council, at its meeting on 8 December 2023, approved a new policy aimed at streamlining and facilitating the application process.
Provisional Membership is now valid for only six (6) months, with an estimated turnaround time of within two weeks once all documents are in order.
- Dedicated Staff AssistanceResources and personnel are allocated to assist applicants in addressing outstanding issues promptly, using the MS Teams meeting facility and/or WhatsApp on +675 7801 3986.
- Payment of FeesApplicants now pay the processing, membership, and registration fees upfront to expedite processing and assessment. Invoices are issued by Accounts effective immediately.
- Receipt of PaymentUpon settlement of fees, Provisional Membership and Registration certificates are issued to the applicant, valid for a period of six (6) months only.
- Fast-Track AssessmentApplications now undergo expedited assessment to ensure timely processing and resolution within the six (6) month period.
- Enhanced CommunicationThe Member Services Officers are committed to providing clear and timely communication using MS Teams and WhatsApp throughout the application process.
- Transparent ProcessIEPNG aims to make the application process as transparent as possible, keeping applicants aware of the steps being taken and their registration status.
- Penalty ChargesFailure to complete registration within the six (6) month period will result in the applicant and the employer/organisation facing charges as stipulated in the Professional Engineers Registration Act.
- Cancellation of Provisional Registration/Membership
- Cancellation of Work Permit, for expatriate applicants
- Charges as per Sections 23–26 of the PERA
- Request to the employer to terminate the applicant's employment
- No refund of membership/registration fees
